Texas Rangers transactions: Phillips Valdez has been recalled from AAA Nashville, the team announced today. To make room for him on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned Peter Fairbanks to AAA Nashville.
The Peter Fairbanks Experience was a wild ride, as he came up and dominated his first two outings in the majors. He then had a pair of outings where he gave up a solo home run, had another scoreless outing, and then had three straight bad appearances, including one where he gave up a pair of home runs, and last night’s outing, where he gave up a hit and a pair of walks. He will presumably get a chance in Nashville to get back on track, and if he does, one would expect him to return later this summer.
With the Rangers carrying just seven relievers currently, they are going to look to shuffle guys up and down to get fresh arms after game like yesterday, where the bullpen logged a ton of pitches. Valdez will give the bullpen a long man who can soak up several innings if needed.
