MLB Trade Rumors: Trevor Bauer is going from the Cleveland Indians to the Cincinnati Reds in a three way deal also involving the San Diego Padres, per reports. The Reds are reportedly sending Taylor Trammell to the Padres and Yasiel Puig to the Indians as part of the deal, with Logan Allen and Franmil Reyes reportedly going to Cleveland.
For the Indians, this costs them one of their top starting pitchers, but Bauer is a free agent after 2020, and this gets them two significant upgrades for their outfield. Puig is a dynamic player who is a free agent after the season, and Reyes is a guy who doesn’t get on base much but has huge power. Allen is a 22 year old pitcher who came to San Diego in the Craig Kimbrel trade.
The Reds are giving up one of their top prospects in Trammell, a AA outfielder who is a consensus top 100 guy but who has also seen his stock drop this year. In Bauer, they have a mercurial pitcher who is expected to earn close to $20 million in 2020 before hitting the free agent market. Cincy is on the fringes of both the division and wild card race, which makes it odd they are buying.
This will be updated when we know the full deal.
UPDATE — The Indians are reportedly getting AA LHP Scott Moss from the Reds and Rookie Ball OF/3B Victor Nova from the Padres.
