Ironic, in the end, that on a night where Mike Minor pitched for the Texas Rangers instead of hopping a plane to begin a new chapter on a different team on deadline day, and though he tossed a less than inspiring game, the Rangers won and Minor himself picked up just his ninth win of the season.
Ironic, in the end, that on a night where the Rangers were trailing, it was 2017’s trade deadline headliner Willie Calhoun who eventually helped Minor to his rarer than expected victory with a three-run blast to put the Rangers ahead for good.
Player of the Game: Calhoun hit the big game-changing bomb, added a walk, and scored another run but hey, how about Jeff Mathis? Mathis had two hits tonight which I’m pretty sure doubles his season total.
Up Next: The Rangers have Thursday off before welcoming the Detroit Tigers to Arlington for a three-game weekend set to begin their August slate. Lance Lynn, also still a Ranger, is in line to hurl for Texas against LHP Tyler Alexander for Detroit. Friday’s first pitch from The Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
