The Texas Rangers are planning on calling up lefthander Joe Palumbo to start one of the games of the doubleheader slated for Tuesday, August 20, making his start tonight for Nashville potentially his final minor league game of the season. If it was, he ended his AAA season in spectacular fashion, throwing 6 no hit innings with 7 Ks and just 2 walks. Pedro Payano is slated to pitch the other game of the doubleheader, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Payano started game 1 and then was sent down to make room for Palumbo for game 2, with Palumbo staying in the rotation after that. Joe Barlow allowed a run in a hit and a walk in 1.2 IP, striking out 2. Nick Solak had a single and a homer, Eli White had a double and a homer, and Ronald Guzman had 3 hits.

For Hickory, Ronny Henriquez also had 6 shutout innings with 2 walks and 7 Ks, but he allowed 2 hits. Tyreque Reed had a single and two doubles, and Miguel Aparicio and Melvin Novoa both homered.

Down East saw both Scott Engler and Cole Uvila go 3 shutout innings, with Engler striking out 5 and Uvila striking out 6. Curtis Terry had a home run and a walk, Bubba Thompson had a triple, a walk and a steal, and Sherten Apostel had a hit and a walk.

For Frisco, rehabbing Luke Farrell went 2.2 IP with 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 walk and 4 Ks. He only has a week of available time left on his rehab assignment and could, given the state of the major league pen, be up before then. Demarcus Evans retired the only batter he faced. Leody Taveras had a walk and a double.
