Along with the move announced earlier today, the Texas Rangers have also purchased the contract of right handed reliever Emmanuel Clase. To make room on the 25 man roster, the Rangers optioned Kyle Bird to AAA Nashville. The Rangers has an open 40 man roster spot so no 40 man move was needed.

Clase, 21, was acquired from the San Diego Padres last year as the player to be named later in the deal that sent Brett Nicholas to San Diego. He had a terrific year in Spokane in 2018, and has split 2019 between Down East and Frisco, putting up a 2.82 ERA in 44.2 IP, with 50 Ks against 9 walks.

Clase is the hardest thrower in the Rangers system, sitting 100-102 with his fastball and also throwing a slider. He will presumably be used in late inning situations.
