Texas Rangers transactions: Joe Palumbo has been promoted as the 26th man for today’s doubleheader, the Rangers announced today. In addition, the Rangers have purchased the contract of infielder/outfielder Nick Solak, and have placed outfielder Nomar Mazara on the injured list.
Although Palumbo is the 26th man, it isn’t a requirement that he be sent back down after the doubleheaders today. Brock Burke will be starting Game Two, and someone (but not Palumbo, who has to be up for both games) will have to be sent down for that.
Meanwhile, Solak is up and was the starting DH in Game One today. Both Nomar Mazara and Danny Santana left yesterday’s game with injuries, though it appears Santana’s hamstring wasn’t bad enough to land him on the injured list, while Mazara’s oblique issue is going to sideline him for a while. Solak was slashing .357/.390/.670 for Nashville since coming over in the trade from Tampa Bay that sent Peter Fairbanks to the Rays.
