Locke St. John up, Isiah Kiner-Falefa down

Prior to Wednesday’s game, the Rangers recalled pitcher Locke St. John and sent down infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa

Texas Rangers transactions: Locke St. John was recalled before Wednesday night’s game with the Anaheim Angels, the team announced today. To make room for St. John on the active roster, the Rangers optioned infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to AA Frisco.

I don’t really know what this is about. Kiner-Falefa was a catcher earlier in the year, got hurt, and then was moved back to the infield when he was rehabbing. When Asdrubal Cabrera was released, Kiner-Falefa was recalled and expected to get the bulk of the playing time at first base, but with Danny Santana getting reps at the position now along with Logan Forsythe, I guess it was determined IKF was better off getting regular playing time in the minors. He is joining Nashville on Thursday.

Locke St. John is a lefty sidearming reliever who has been up and down this year.

In addition, the Rangers announced that pitcher David Carpenter, who was designated for assignment earlier this week, has cleared waivers and been outrighted to AAA Nashville.
