5 Ks in 5 IP for Winn, Wendzel debuts

Hickory’s Cole Winn allowed 2 runs and fanned 5 this evening, and Davis Wendzel made his pro debut

MLB: Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

2018 first rounder Cole Winn took the mound for the Hickory Crawdads tonight and had a solid outing, going 5 IP, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3. Winn has a 3.34 ERA over his last 10 outings. Miguel Aparicio, Tyreque Reed and Matt Whatley each had hits, and Josh Jung had a pair of walks.

2019 compensatory first round pick Davis Wendzel, a third baseman out of Baylor, made his pro debut tonight, DHing for the AZL Rangers after having spent his time since signing rehabbing a sprained thumb. He had a walk, a strikeout and a fly out.

Down East and Nashville both got rained out. Bah.

And Frisco had a game we don’t want to talk about.

But hey, Winn and Wendzel!
