MILB Thread: 8/23 - 9/6

If you've frequented the MILB threads recently, you'll know about my man-prospect-crush on Spokane catcher David Garcia. The switch-hitting catcher was a part of the 2016 J-2 class for Texas - he signed for 800k. As catchers are wont to do, he has moved slowly as of now. He spent a full year in the Dominican summer league and was mediocre, then a full year in Arizona while he was mediocre.

This year however, he is in the Northwest League for Spokane and is absolutely not mediocre. He's had 192 plate apperances in short-season A ball so far and is batting .284/.359/.450 with 13 doubles and 5 homers. His plate discipline is very strong statistically too with a 10.4% walk rate to go with a 17.7% strike out rate, both good numbers for the 19 year old catcher. ALl of that is good for a 131 DRC+

He's looking strong defensively too, at least by the metrics we're privy too with a 36% CS rate (very solid) only 4 passed balls. He's about neutral at Fielding Runs Above Average (FRAA) and a +5 in DRAA

If the tools at all match the production, he's going to shoot up prospect lists like crazy - he's looking like a catcher who might

a. stick there

b. hit

Unicorns.

I'm interested to see how his 40 FV on THE BOARD! changes going into next season where he'll likely be Hickory's starting catcher.
