Frisco righthander Tyler Phillips faced off against the Astros’ AA affiliate last night, and had an overall solid night, going 7 IP while allowing just 2 runs (1 earned). Phillips allowed just 2 hits (one a home run) and one walk while striking out 3. This is the sixth straight outing he has allowed 3 earned runs or less (though he allow 3 earned and 4 unearned runs his last time out). The strikeout totals are still lower than you would like to see, but Phillips is making headway. In relief, Demarcus Evans struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced in a scoreless 9th, lowering his ERA at AA to 1.33.

Edinson Volquez began his journey back to the big leagues last night, throwing a scoreless inning for the AZL Rangers. The hope is that he can be activated sometime in September and make a couple of appearances out of the bullpen in what he has said will be his final season.

Among the hitters for the AZL Rangers, Osleivis Basabe went 3 for 5 with a walk, Heriberto Hernandez had a single, a walk and a homer, and Keyber Rodriguez had a single, a triple and a pair of walks.

For Nashville, Kyle Bird had a scoreless inning of work, walking one, allowing a hit and striking out 2. Shane Carle allowed a run in an inning of work on 2 hits with a K. Ronald Guzman was 3 for 5 with a single, double and home run, Nick Solak had a single and a double, Eli White had a single and a walk, Zack Granite had a pair of singles and a pair of triples, and Patrick Wisdom had a single and a pair of home runs.
