2019 Texas Rangers minor league review: The Frisco Roughriders hitters.
With the regular season over for the Texas Rangers’ minor league clubs, we are taking a look at the performance of each of the U.S.-based minor league teams. Today we are looking at the hitters for the AA Frisco Roughriders.
For much of the year there was little in the way of prospectiness among the position players at Frisco. Charles Leblanc didn’t hit, Brendon Davis didn’t hit (and appears to have been moved to the outfield), and Michael De Leon didn’t hit (though he, as usual, provided really good defense).
The players of note among the Roughriders position players are primarily the mid-season promotions from Down East. Leody Taveras came up and acquitted himself respectably, playing plus defense in center field and putting up a 695 OPS as a 20 year old. Yonny Hernandez stole bases and drew a lot of walks, as he did in Down East, and while there remain significant questions because of his lack of power, he did well in the Texas League. Ryan Dorow also moved up, and while he didn’t really hit, he is considered one of the best defensive infielders in the system.
