With Jeff Mathis ailing, Tim Federowicz is back with the Rangers

Texas Rangers transactions: Tim Federowicz has been added to the 40 man roster and the active roster, the Rangers announced today. To make room for him on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved Joey Gallo to the 60 day injured list.

The Gallo move is purely procedural, as he is eligible to be activated from the 60 day injured list on Saturday, should the team choose to do so, and is simply the most expeditious way of creating a 40 man roster spot since it doesn’t really impact his ability to return. However, the beats are indicating that it does not sound likely Gallo will be ready to play again before the season ends at the end of next week.

As for Federowicz, he was acquired earlier this year when the Rangers put Isiah Kiner-Falefa on the injured list to share catching duties with Jeff Mathis. Federowicz was waived and outrighted in August, with Jose Trevino replacing him on the active roster. With Mathis currently injured and the team not wanting to use IKF behind the plate, Federowicz is back to be the backup for Trevino the rest of the way.
