Fed up with a long losing streak, and looking to cure themselves of the perpetual Oakland Coliseum calamity, the Rangers throttled the likely October-bound Athletics today in a way that they’ve been beaten often lately: A whole bunch of big ol’ dingers and a starter K-ing everyone who steps up to the plate.
The Rangers hit five home runs today and scored eight total runs. While they were A’s-ing the A’s at their own game at the plate, starter Lance Lynn was tying a career high with 12 strikeouts to just one walk in his 5 1⁄3 innings of heavy lifting from the mound.
Texas finishes the season 6-13 against the A’s, and just 3-7 at the haunted house that is Oakland Coliseum, so they won’t miss ‘em, but at least they went out with a cleansing win to put a momentary dent in Oakland’s top AL Wild Card lead.
Player of the Game: Willie Calhoun was the only member of the Rangers to hit two home runs during their dong party today. No. 2 on the day was Willie’s 20th of the 2019 season. He’s on pace to have played in just over half the games.
Up Next: The Rangers take Monday off before beginning the final homestand of 2019 and the final homestand of The Ballpark on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.
