Leody Taveras lone Ranger in Texas League top 20

BA’s top 20 prospect list for the Texas League has just one Ranger on the list

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Baseball America has their top 20 prospect list for the Texas League out, and Leody Taveras is the lone Texas Ranger on the list, checking in at #14. BA has praise for his speed and defense, with the questions, as I’m sure you’ve heard, about his ability to drive the ball. Leody had only 65 games in the Texas League, having been promoted from high-A mid-season, and slashed .265/.320/.375.

It is not surprising to me that Leody is the only Ranger on the list. The rest of the position players on the team were generally not upper echelon prospects, the pitchers generally didn’t have enough appearances to qualify (such as Brock Burke or Joe Palumbo) or don’t have the combination of stuff and results that is needed to crack these lists (such as Tyler Phillips and Jason Bahr, who were promoted from high-A mid-season) or were relievers (such as Joe Barlow and Demarcus Evans).
