Texas Rangers transactions: Pitchers Pedro Payano and Locke St. John, who were designated for assignment on Sunday to open up spots on the 40 man roster for Edinson Volquez and Jeffrey Springs, have cleared waivers and been outrighted to AAA Nashville, the team announced today.

St. John, a 26 year old left handed pitcher originally acquired by the Rangers in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft in the 2017-18 offseason, will remain in the Rangers organization going forward, as he does not have enough service time to become a minor league free agent until after the 2020 season.

Payano, a 24 year old righthanded pitcher, was a minor league free agent last offseason, and signed a minor league deal to return to the Rangers for 2019. He will be a free agent at season’s end.
