The youngsters take the headlines again tonight as Kolby Allard won his fourth game in six starts since coming to Texas in a trade deadline deal with the Braves and a Nick Solak home run produced the tying and go-ahead runs for an offense that continues to putter along in the season’s final month.

Allard wasn’t missing bats tonight like he had been able to in his previous starts with Texas but he kept the O’s off the board for much of his time on the mound before a sixth inning sac fly opened the scoring. Overall, Allard went 6 23 innings and allowed eight hits, two walks, and struck out two.

Defeating the Baltimore Orioles in 2019 isn’t exactly an amazing accomplishment but the 69th victory of the season was a nice one to pick up for the Rangers to even their record on this road trip.

Player of the Game: A lot of folks seemed surprised that the Rangers were able to acquire Solak from the Tampa Bay Rays for a young, unproven backend of the bullpen prospect in Peter Fairbanks. We’re starting to see why as Solak continues to rake in his brief time in the big leagues thus far and today his two-run blast in the top of the seventh turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win.

Then, to top off his evening, Solak walked in the top of the ninth and scored the third run to give the Rangers some insurance.

Up Next: The Rangers and Orioles are back at it again on Friday night with LHP Brock Burke set to make the start for Texas against RHP Dylan Bundy for Baltimore. First pitch from Camden Yards is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT.
