Hickory advances, Spokane eliminated

The Hickory Crawdads have moved on to the Sally League Finals, while the Spokane Indians were eliminated

In the minor league playoffs last night, one Ranger affiliated advanced while another was eliminated.

The Hickory Crawdads beat Delmarva 1-0 in 10 innings on Friday. Abdiel Mendoza, a 20 year old righthanded pitcher from Panama who came over in the Cory Gearrin trade last year, threw 6.1 IP with just 1 hit and 1 walk allowed. Hever Bueno threw 2.2 scoreless innings with 3 Ks, and Kelvin Gonzalez had a scoreless 10th to lock down the win. Pedro Gonzalez had 2 hits, and the winning run scored in the 10th when a bases loaded safety squeeze by Jax Biggers brought home Kole Enright.

The Spokane Indians also played 10 innings last night, but lost to Tri-City by a score of 3-2. Spokane scored a pair of runs in the 9th to tie things up, but a bases loaded walk in the 10th ended the game. David Garcia and Davis Wendzel each had hits for Spokane, and Derwin Barreto picked up a pair of hits.

Today, Down East, which is tied 1-1 in the Carolina League semifinals, will play a pair against Fayetteville.
