Kris Bryant has lost the grievance he filed against the Chicago Cubs over service time manipulation, according to Jeff Passan. Bryant had filed the grievance over the fact that he was sent down to the minors to start the 2015 season, and was called up on April 17, 2015 — one day after he would have received credit for a full year’s service time.

This is disappointing news — as I explained a few weeks ago, I thought Bryant’s case being decided in his favor would be good for the game.

Bryant has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason, but nothing was going to happen until the grievance was resolved, and it was known whether Bryant would be eligible for free agency after 2020, or after 2021. Its not a given that Bryant will be traded now, but if he is going to be dealt, it likely will be within the next seven to ten days.
