Cleveland Indians pitcher Shane Bieber is the winner of the 2020 American League Cy Young Award. Bieber received all 30 first place votes.
Bieber, who finished 4th in the Cy Young Balloting last year, put up a 1.63 ERA in 12 starts over 77.1 innings pitched with a 2.07 FIP. he led the majors in wins, ERA, ERA+, FIP, strikeouts and strikeouts per 9.
Kenta Maeda of the Minnesota Twins finished second in the balloting, getting 18 second place votes, while the Toronto Blue Jays’ Hyun-Jin Ryu narrowly edged out Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees for third place. Dallas Keuchel of the Chicago White Sox was fifth.
Texas Rangers pitcher Lance Lynn claimed the sixth spot, picking up a second place vote, three third place votes, four fourth place votes, and a fifth place vote. Lucas Giolito, Chris Bassitt, Dylan Bundy, Liam Hendricks and Framber Valdez rounded out the balloting.
The second place vote for Lynn came from Levi Weaver of the Athletic. T.R. Sullivan had Lynn fourth on his ballot.
