With the offseason kicking into gear, we are going to run a series of polls asking about what you think the Texas Rangers should do in regards to various players on the free agent market. We have used Jon Heyman’s predictions in the past, but since he hasn’t been doing them lately, we will use the Fangraphs predictions instead, along with the predictions from Kiley McDaniel at ESPN.
Today, we are looking at Marcus Semien, the Oakland A’s shortstop who followed up a breakout, MVP-caliber 2019 season with a very disappointing 2020 campaign. Semien, 30, was averaging around 3 wins per season from 2015-18, and doesn’t have a qualifying offer attached, making him more appealing. Fangraphs projects Semien to get 4 years, $64 million in free agency this offseason, while McDaniel has him at 3 years, $54 million. We will go with the shorter years, higher AAV projection.
At 3 years, $54 million, and no loss of a draft pick, would you want the Rangers to sign Marcus Semien?
