MLB Rumors: Mike Minor and the Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms on a two year deal, per multiple reports. The free agent left handed pitcher spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Royals, with his strong 2017 campaign leading to Minor inking a three year, $28 million deal with the Texas Rangers. No details on the financial terms of this deal have been reported yet.
Minor, who turns 33 in December, spent the 2016 season on the injured list with Kansas City, then had a tremendous year out of the bullpen for them in 2017. He returned to the rotation with Texas, and was terrific for the Rangers in 2018 and 2019 before falling off in 2020. Texas ended up dealing Minor to the Oakland A’s at the trade deadline for Marcus Smith and Dustin Harris. Minor put up a 5.48 ERA in 5 outings for Oakland in the regular season, though he did have three scoreless relief appearances in the ALDS.
There was some speculation there might be mutual interest in Minor returning to Texas for 2021, but that apparently won’t be happening.
