Left handed pitcher Robbie Ray had reportedly agreed on a one year, $8 million deal to stay with the Toronto Blue Jays, per multiple reports. This was the first time Ray had been a free agent.
The 29 year old is something of an enigma, as he has stuff that suggests he could be a solid #2 or #3 starter. Except for 2017, however, when he put up a 4.7 bWAR, he has never hit the 2.0 bWAR mark in his career. A particularly bad start to the season with the Arizona Diamondbacks led to him fetching only Travis Bergen from the Jays in a deadline deal.
The Jays apparently liked what they saw of him enough to bring him back for 2021.
