MLB Rumors: Mike Minor’s contract with the Kansas City Royals will guarantee him $18 million, per Jeff Passan on Twitter. Jon Heyman says that Minor will get $7 million in 2021, $10 million in 2022, and has a 2023 team option for $13 million with a $1 million buyout.

That’s a little more than I would have guessed for Minor, who signed a 3 year, $28 million deal with the Texas Rangers after the 2017 season, and gave them two very good years before struggling in 2020. Kiley McDaniel at ESPN predicted one year, $8 million in his free agent projections.

Minor, who turns 33 the day after Christmas, saw his velocity drop this past year, though 2020 was obviously an extraordinarily weird year that saw routines change dramatically, and Minor, who is known for being extremely routine-oriented, may have suffered more than most as a result. He will now get a chance to get back on track with the Royals, the team where he got his career back on track once before a half-decade ago.
