According to Ken Rosenthal, Lance Lynn didn’t get traded at the August 31 deadline because he let the Rangers know that he would opt out of the season (as was his right under COVID rules) if he were traded to a team for whom he didn’t want to play.
Lance Lynn did get traded Monday, however, to the White Sox for right hander Dane Dunning and lefty Avery Weems.
Evan Grant asks whether the Lance Lynn deal will go in Jon Daniels’ ledger or Chris Young’s, and the answer is “well, it depends on if the trade ends up being a winner.”
Kevin Sherrington thinks the Rangers did as well as could be expected, given Lance Lynn’s age and contract status.
Dunning is expected to be in the mix for a starting job in 2021 among such standouts as Kyle Gibson, Jordan Lyles, and an inanimate carbon rod.
