The Fangraphs top 100 prospect list for 2020 is out, and it includes 120 prospects in all, which is good for Texas Rangers fans because two of the three Rangers who make the list fall in the 101-120 range.
The Rangers who do make the cut are surprising, however. The top ranked Ranger prospect is righthanded pitcher Yerry Rodriguez, who comes in at #97. The 22 year old righthanded pitcher spent last season in A ball, and was shut down late in the season due to elbow issues. This is the highest I’ve seen anyone rank Rodriguez.
Falling in the 101-120 range are infielder Nick Solak, who isn’t a surprise, and C/OF Heriberto Hernandez, who is. Solak, of course, is a very good pure bat who is still trying to find a position, and who likely will spend much, if not all, of 2020 in the majors.
Hernandez, meanwhile, is a catcher/outfielder who likely is a RF/DH type long-term, and who spent most of 2019 in the Arizona Rookie League. Hernandez’s bat has impressed, however, and there’s apparently enough belief in it in this evaluator’s eyes to make Hernandez a top 120 guy.
