The Seattle Mariners and pitcher Marco Gonzales have agreed to terms on a 4 year contract extension for the 2021-24 seasons, with a team option for 2025. The 27 year old lefthander gets $30 million guaranteed, with a total potential value of $45 million, per reports.
Gonzales was a first round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013. After struggling in brief major league stints for the Cardinals, Gonzales was dealt to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Tyler O’Neill in July, 2017.
Gonzales has put up a 3.99 ERA and a 3.83 FIP in 369 innings over 63 starts the past two seasons. Gonzales already was under contract for 2020, and this deal buys out three potential arbitration years along with either one or two free agent years.
