Texas Rangers transactions: Kolby Allard, Sherten Apostel, Demarcus Evans and Leody Taveras have been optioned. Allard and Evans have been optioned to AAA Nashville, while Apostel and Taveras have been optioned to AA Frisco.
None of those moves are particularly surprising, as all of those players were expected to start the season in the minors, and no developments in the major league camp thusfar would suggest that any of them would need to start the season in the majors. While the optional assignments are subject to change, this would at least suggest that the Rangers are planning on Allard and Evans starting the season in Nashville, and Apostel and Taveras in Frisco.
Meanwhile, Joe Barlow, Brian Flynn and James Jones have been re-assigned to the minor league camp. Barlow is a legitimate prospect who is not on the 40 man roster, and was seen as someone the Rangers could lose in the Rule 5 Draft, but who went unselected. He will likely start the year in the Nashville bullpen. Flynn and Jones are minor league depth.
