The Texas Rangers optioned left handed pitcher Joe Palumbo to AAA Nashville today, it was announced.
Why? I have no idea. MLB has suspended spring training and the start of the season. While MLB has said it is only suspending the first two weeks of the season so far, with the CDC recommending a ban on gatherings of 50 people or more for the next 8 weeks, it seems unlikely we will have any baseball before June.
So why option Palumbo now? Maybe the Rangers are going to dole out procedural transactions over the coming days to give us something to talk about. Maybe there Is a roster issue in regards to, I don’t know, when they have to have no more than 26 players on the major league active roster that necessitated a move now.
Who knows. But it’s baseball news of a sort.
