MLB teams closing clubhouses due to Coronavirus

MLB is reporting going to close clubhouses to all but players and essential personnel due to Coronavirus concerns

MLB Rumors: Clubhouses will be closed due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 concerns, according to Jeff Passan on Twitter, who says that MLB let teams know in a conference call today that they will be restricted media and other non-essential personnel from clubhouses.

This is on the heels of both the NHL and the NBA restricting access to locker rooms in an effort to stem the spread and proliferation of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Passan says that media members will be able to talk to players outside the clubhouse, but will be asked to respect the six foot personal space rule that the CDC has recommended.

MLB isn’t canceling or relocating any games as of now, but this is obviously a very fluid situation, and everything is subject to change. Elsewhere, the Japanese Professional League has canceled early season games already, and other sporting leagues around the world have canceled games and events.

Italy has, as of this afternoon, put the entire country on lockdown, meaning no major gatherings, including sport events, through the end of the month.
