Hank Steinbrenner, co-owner of the New York Yankees, has died today, per reports. He was 63.
Hank Steinbrenner was the son of George Steinbrenner, the notorious, bombastic shipbuilder who bought the Yankees in 1973, and became a tabloid fixture and larger-than-life presence in MLB. Upon George’s death in 2010, ownership of the team passed to Hank and his younger brother Hal.
Hank took after his father, in terms of being quotable and sometimes controversial in his comments. Hal, 50, has been the managing general partner of the Yankees since 2008, while Hank was co-chairman.
Hank reportedly died after a lengthy (non-COVID 19-related) illness.
