MLB The Show Players League - It’s playoff time for Joey Gallo

Just as we’d always hoped, Joey Gallo has led the Rangers to the playoffs

Joey Gallo and his digital Texas Rangers went 23-6 in the debut regular season of the MLB The Show Players League which was good enough to qualify for the second overall seed in the playoffs.

Yesterday, top seed Blake Snell and his Rays swept Gavin Lux and his Dodgers two games to zero. In the other quarterfinals played yesterday, Jeff McNeil’s Mets swept Dwight Smith Jr. and his Orioles. The cyber Rays and mechanized Mets will play each other later tonight (7pm CT on FS1) for a slot in tomorrow’s finals.

Today, however, Gallo gets to take his swings at the postseason.

2. Joey Gallo (Rangers) vs. 7. Ian Happ (Cubs)

Saturday, 2 p.m. CT on ESPN2

3. Bo Bichette (Blue Jays) vs. 6. Lucas Giolito (White Sox)

Saturday, 2 p.m. CT on ESPN2

It won’t be an easy trek for Gallo on his half of the bracket today as Happ is loaded up with talented Cubs on his squad and he already defeated Gallo 6-5 on the regular season’s final game. Gallo had already clinched by that point, so he wasn’t giving it his all, but he’ll have to prove that he can best Happ if he wants to move on.

Should Gallo avoid becoming the league’s first playoff upset, he’ll take on the winner of Bichette vs. Giolito later today.

Gallo vs. Bichette was one of the most anticipated battles in the regular season with Gallo coming out on top 6-4 against Bichette’s Blue Jays during his early run of dominance.

Should Giolito move on — and Gallo top Happ — Gallo would have the opportunity for revenge as it was Giolito and his White Sox that handed Gallo a walk-off loss that they’re using in the hype videos for this whole production.
