With their second round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, the 50th overall choice, the Texas Rangers have selected Tennessee high school outfielder Evan Carter.

This is the weirdest pick of the draft so far. Carter isn’t on the Baseball America top 500 draft prospect list, and no one on the MLB Network seems to know who he is.

He is listed at 6’4”, 190 lbs., is a left handed hitter, and is one of the younger players in the draft, not turning 18 for another few months. He’s a Duke commit, but obviously won’t be going to Duke.

I’ve got nothing here. I don’t know why they took Carter here. I’m baffled.
