The 2020 seasons for the affiliated minor leagues has been canceled, it was announced today. Minor League Baseball President Pat O’Conner said in a statement that “[w]hile this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment.”
I think that we all expected this announcement would be coming — it has appeared for some time that there wouldn’t be minor league games in 2020 — but the official word actually coming down does create a sense of disappointment.
Here’s hoping things will be back on track and minor league ball will be back at the start of the 2021 baseball year.
