Jonathan Mayo’s latest 2020 MLB mock draft is out, and as in his previous mock, he projects the Texas Rangers to take University of Tennessee lefthander Garrett Crochet with their first round pick.

We wrote up Crochet last month — the lefthander has what Chris Woodward would call elite stuff, but has primarily pitched in relief in college prior to 2020. Crochet was working as a starter this year, but of course, the season has been cut short.

Crochet and the Rangers have been linked before, and he’s expected to go mid-first round, so this wouldn’t be a reach. There are reasonable concerns surrounding Crochet’s lack of a track record as a starter and whether he’s going to be able to stick in the rotation as a pro, but the fastball/slider combo he features is exciting, and he would be a reasonable choice at #14.
