Texas Rangers transactions: Ian Gibaut, Rob Refsnyder and Edinson Volquez have been officially added to the 40 man roster, the team announced today. The 40 man roster had been at 38, with Brett Martin on the COVID-19 injured list and Brock Burke on the 45 man injured list, so a roster move had to made to clear a spot for one of the three. To open that spot, the Rangers had apparently waived Yohander Mendez, who has cleared waivers and been outrighted. Mendez is no longer part of the team’s 60 man pool for 2020.
In addition, Kolby Allard, Joe Palumbo, Scott Heineman and Leody Taveras, who had been optioned earlier in the year, were officially recalled, and are now officially on the team’s active roster for Opening Day tomorrow.
Rafael Montero and Joely Rodriguez have been officially placed on the 10 day injured list. Rodriguez is dealing with a strained lat he suffered in April, but has made good progress, per reports, and it sounds like he will be able to be activated at some point in August. Montero has a strained right forearm, and his prognosis is much hazier, with no clear timetable having been provided for his return.
The Rangers now have a full 40 man roster, and the Opening Day roster appears to be set. The Rangers will have to make a move at some point when they activate Martin, although if Montero does not appear to be likely to return soon, he could be moved to the 45 day injured list to open up a roster spot.
