The Texas Rangers have placed relief pitcher Nick Goody on the 10 day injured list with back spasms, the team announced today. Taking his place on the active roster is Jimmy Herget, who was optioned to the Alternate Team Site yesterday, but now is back.
Goody has appeared in 7 games but only thrown 4 innings, which is weird. Back spasms always make me think of Bruno Sundov, a 7’3” project center for the Dallas Mavericks in the late 90s who spent seemingly an entire season on the injured list with back spasms, while the team worked with him to try to get his skills polished enough to actually play. So whenever I see back spasms I wonder.
Herget threw two days in a row and then was sent down yesterday for Wes Benjamin. He has returned today. I hope the time off was helpful.
Also noteworthy is that right handed pitchers Ricky Vanasco and Cole Winn have been added to the Rangers’ 60 man pool. They aren’t realistic options to end up getting called up this year, but this allows them to work out and such with the Alternate Team Site guys.
