Texas Rangers transactions: Danny Santana has been placed on the 10 day injured list, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have activated infielder Anderson Tejeda.
An interesting transaction — Santana to the injured list seemed to be inevitable, given his arm soreness that has been limiting him, but Tejeda being activated is a bit of a surprise. That said, Santana is theoretically the team’s backup middle infielder along with playing center field, and with Rougned Odor dealing with an oblique issue, the team’s infield depth was lacking.
Tejeda is a shortstop who was added to the 40 man roster this offseason. He has never played above high-A and missed most of 2019 with an injury, but he’s considered a quality defender with a big arm, so he can be the utility infielder for the time being. Tejeda experimented with switch hitting last year after hitting lefty his whole career prior to that, and he’s got good power, but also a lot of swing and miss in his game.
