The Texas Rangers have activated pitcher Luke Farrell as their extra man for today’s doubleheader against the Oakland A’s. Farrell will, per MLB rules, be returned to the Alternate Training Site after today’s game.

I initially typed “26th” man instead of “extra” man, since prior to this year it was the 26th man. MLB rosters were expanded to 26 players this past offseason, so this would normally be the 27th man, but with rosters having been expanded to 28 players for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 situation, Farrell is actually the 29th man today.

In addition, these two games will only be 7 innings long, a rule adopted for doubleheaders in 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.
