Texas Rangers transactions: Shin-Soo Choo has been placed on the 10 day injured list with a sprained hand, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have activated Rougned Odor from the 10 day injured list.
Choo is in his final year of his deal, and I am sure does not want to end his time with the Rangers on the i.l. He injured his hand on a slide into home plate two days ago, and with the move being retroactive to September 8, he would eligible to be re-activated on September 18. That would leave just over a week of the season for Choo to finish his time with Texas.
Odor, meanwhile, is back after having missed time with an eye infection. I don’t know that the Rangers particularly were enthusiastic about activating him, but he is apparently healthy, and so they have to. Like Choo, I expect Odor is going to be finished as a Ranger once the season is over.
Meanwhile, Danny Santana underwent surgery on his elbow, and will be out 7-8 months. The surgery was essentially a variation of Tommy John surgery. Santana was heading into his final arbitration season, but given that he will be on the shelf to start 2021, I suspect the Rangers will non-tender him and look to sign him to a minor league deal, rather than keep him on the 40 man roster all offseason, and have to pay him what he would make through the arbitration process.
