The New York Mets have fired general manager Jared Porter, team owner Steve Cohen announced on Twitter today.
Last night, ESPN reported that Porter had pursued a female reporter while working with the Chicago Cubs in 2016, sending repeated text messages to her that culminated in his sending a picture of a penis.
Porter joined the Arizona Diamondbacks after the 2016 season, and was hired away from the D-Backs by the Mets last month. Cohen said, in his tweet, that in his introductory press conference he talked about the importance of integrity “and I meant it.”
The Mets have Sandy Alderson as President of Baseball Operations, and he will presumably be seeking a replacement general manager now.
