60-101 - Rangers grab win No. 60 in penultimate affair of dreadful season

The Texas Rangers scored seven runs and the Clevelanders only mustered a couple of runs.

In the final game under the stars at The Shed, the Rangers put together one of their better performances in an otherwise extremely forgettable season.

Willie Calhoun led off tonight’s contest with a dong and after the players from Cleveland tied the game in the top of the third, it was all Texas from then on.

The big blow came in the bottom of the fourth as Jonah Heim walloped a three-run homer for his tenth of the season to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead that they would not be threatened to relinquish.

Texas added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to pad the score and ensure that they have escaped a win total in the 50s as a consolation prize.

Player of the Game: Jordan Lyles saved the best for last, I guess. In his final outing of the season, Lyles went seven two-hit innings and allowed just one run with one walk and a season-high tying eight strikeouts.

Up Next: The Rangers suit up for one last ride as RHP Dane Dunning gets the nod in the season finale for Texas against RHP Aaron Civale for Cleveland in their final game of their current name.

Sunday’s first pitch from The Shed in your final opportunity to see the Rangers play baseball in 2021 is scheduled for 2:05 pm CT.
