The Texas Rangers have purchased the contacts of infielder Brock Holt and pitcher Ian Kennedy, the team announced today. In addition, Jonathan Hernandez and Jose Leclerc were placed on the 60 day injured list. With that combination of moves the 40 man roster stands at 39.
Holt and Kennedy had previously been announced as having made the team, so their being added to the 40 man roster was expected. Charlie Culberson and Matt Bush have also been announced as having made the team, and 40 man roster spots will need to be created for them as well. I am not sure what the delay is in adding those two players, other than the possibility that the Rangers could make a move that would add someone from outside the organization to the 40 man roster, which would potentially bump Culberson or Bush.
Rougned Odor is expected to be designated for assignment when rosters are finalized if he isn’t traded before then, and removing Odor from the 40 man roster would clear the second spot needed to add both Culberson and Bush. One additional spot on the 26 man roster is yet to be filled.
