12-16 - Back and forth battle goes the way of the Rangers in 8-6 win over Red Sox

The Rangers wouldn’t back down to Boston and came away victors

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers Raymond Carlin III-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored eight runs and the Boston Red Sox scored six runs.

The Rangers trailed at one point 2-0 early and then again 5-3 in the middle innings tonight against the American League East leading Red Sox. However, unlikely many games this season, they kept plating runs and, before they knew it, they had themselves a late lead large enough to hold onto in a clash of comeback attempts between AL combatants.

While Texas trailed by multiple runs, multiple times tonight, they also had leads of 3-2 and 7-5 which made Boston’s refusal to relent a bothersome experience until it wasn’t. Ultimately, the Rangers were able to snuff out the final rally attempts in the final frames to secure at least a series tie before tomorrow’s finale.

The big hit of the night came off the bat of Willie Calhoun as his one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth turned a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead that the Rangers were able to add to and maintain to kick off the month of May with a win.

Player of the Game: Isiah Kiner-Falefa finished a double shy of a cycle tonight as he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Up Next: The Rangers and Red Sox will play an early one in the finale with RHP Mike Foltynewicz set to start for Texas with an opportunity to take the series against RHP Garrett Richards for Boston. Sunday’s first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 1:35 pm CT.
