It was a rough start for Mason Englert, who took the mound for Down East and allowed six runs in 3.2 IP. Leury Tejada had 1.1 scoreless innings. Offensively, the Wood Ducks had just three hits and one walk.
Hickory had Ronny Henriquez on the mound today, and Henriquez was stellar, striking out eight in six shutout innings, with no walks and two hits allowed. David Garcia had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double. Jake Guenther had a walk and a single.
A.J. Alexy went four innings in his start for Frisco, striking out six, walking no one and allowing two hits. Hever Bueno allowed two runs in an inning of work on two hits and a walk, striking out two. Scott Engler allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in 1.2 IP, striking out two. Cole Uvila walked two and allowed a hit in 0.1 IP. Kelvin Gonzalez made his 2021 debut and threw a scoreless inning, striking out one.
UPDATE — I’ve been informed the box score was wrong and it was Ty Thomas, not Kelvin Gonzalez, who pitched the final inning for Frisco.
Offensively, Sherten Apostel and Josh Stowers each homered, and Bubba Thompson had a hit.
Luis Ortiz threw two scoreless innings with two Ks. Jason Bahr allowed four runs in his first inning of work on a pair of two runs home runs, one by Preston Palmeiro and one by Jo Adell before throwing two scoreless innings. He walked three and struck out one. Joe Barlow allowed a run on a hit and a walk in an inning of work while striking out three. Jimmy Herget had two scoreless innings.
As far as the bats go, Leody Taveras had a home run and a pair of walks. Curtis Terry went three for four with a home run. Anderson Tejeda had a grand slam and a walk.
