Daren Willman joining Rangers front office

Stats maven Daren Willman is leaving MLB to become Senior Director of R&D and Applications

Man Next To Huge Eniac Computer W/Cords

Daren Willman, the stats guy who created Baseball Savant and who has worked for MLB for the last five years, is joining the Texas Rangers as Senior Director of R&D and Applications, per...well, per Willman himself, on Twitter.

Willman has been one of the leading figures in recent years in the evolution of advanced analytics, and his work essentially is the basis for all the Statcast stuff that I like to reference so much. He’s extremely well regarded, and this is a move that is consistent with the Rangers move in the last few years to be more aggressive in expanding and developing their analytics department.
