The Texas Rangers activated closer Ian Kennedy from the injured list before last night’s game against the Houston Astros. To clear a spot on the active roster for Kennedy, the Rangers optioned pitcher Hyeon-jong Yang to AAA Round Rock.
Kennedy was placed on the injured list due to what was described at the time as a mild hamstring strain, which isn’t the sort of thing that normally you’d expect someone to return from so quickly, but Kennedy is back. And thank god he is, because we all know that if there’s anything that a last place team needs, it is a reliable closer.
Yang, meanwhile, goes back to Round Rock, where I am assuming he will start and be rotation depth, should someone go down, or should a certain starting pitcher who showed up his manager when pulled from the game last night be cut loose. He threw 29 innings in four starts and four relief appearances, but only struck out 19 batters while walking 15, and allowed an unsightly 7 home runs.
