The Texas Rangers placed Willie Calhoun on the 10 day injured list with a broken forearm, the team announced before today’s game. Replacing Calhoun on the active roster is Jason Martin, who was recalled from AAA Round Rock.

It was announced last night that Calhoun, who had left yesterday’s game after being hit by a pitch in the second inning, had a broken forearm, so a move to replace him on the active roster was expected. It was surprising, though, at least to me, that David Dahl was not activated. Dahl has spent this week with Round Rock and, most recently, with Frisco on a rehab assignment, and he has been on the assignment long enough I assumed he would be ready to return. Instead, Dahl will stay on the rehab assignment for at least a little longer.

In addition, on Friday the Rangers announced that Brett de Geus had been claimed on waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. De Geus is a righthanded who had been selected in the Rule 5 Draft from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rangers designated him for assignment when they brought up Joe Barlow earlier in the week.
