23-39 - Things were looking good for Rangers until they weren’t in 9-4 loss to Giants

Only 100 more of these baseball games to go

MLB: San Francisco Giants at Texas Rangers Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored four runs but the San Francisco Giants scored nine runs.

It seemed like the Rangers might pull this one out as they took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning tonight. However, the Giants loaded the bases in the top of the frame and the sinking feeling returned just in time for the two-out grand slam by SF’s No. 9 hitter Mike Tauchman.

A .572 OPS and 0-for-3 night was no problem for Tauchman but proved to be trouble for Texas as the demoralizing lead-erasing four-run bomb cost the Rangers their lead while three more Giants runs an inning later put the finishing touches on a 21st loss in their last 26 games.

They’ll try again tomorrow.

Player of the Game: It was fun watching Joey Gallo do a little of everything...

...until he left with a strained groin because we don’t get to enjoy anything.

Up Next: The Rangers and Giants will conclude this short series with RHP Kyle Gibson set to make the start for Texas against a starter as of yet to be determined for San Francisco in the finale. Wednesday’s contest from The Shed is scheduled for 1:05 pm CT.
