Giants 9, Rangers 4

  • I really thought Texas was going to win this one.
  • I mean, they kept hitting into double plays, but when they put up three runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, I was feeling optimistic.
  • When Joely Rodriguez came into the game for Demarcus Evans with two on and one out in the seventh and got the Rangers out of the inning I felt like, okay, great, the Rangers are in good shape now.
  • Then Rodriguez loaded up the bases in the eighth with one out, and Josh Sborz came into game, retired a batter, then gave up a grand slam, and it felt like the last month of Ranger games in a nutshell.
  • Taylor Hearn giving up a three run bomb to make it a blowout of sorts was just the icing on the sucky cake.
  • Things will get better. But man, this is a bad, unpleasant run this team has been on.
  • Jordan Lyles pitched okay at least, getting a quality start by going 6 IP, allowing a pair of runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three.
  • Joey Gallo homered, and those are always fun. He also walked.
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a three hit night. Eli White had a double and a walk in his first game since being recalled from AAA.
  • But...bleah. Another unpleasant loss in a season that has been full of them.
  • Josh Sborz hit 96.8 mph with his fastball last night. Taylor Hearn hit 96.6 mph. Jordan Lyles topped out at 94.7, Joely Rodriguez at 94.4, and Demarcus Evans at 93.1 mph.
  • Joey Gallo had a 105.2 mph fly out. Adolis Garcia had a 102.5 mph fly out. That was it for triple digit exit velocities for Texas last night.
  • I’m ready for some better games.
