The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder David Dahl from the injured list, the team announced today. To make room for Dahl on the injured list, the Rangers have placed catcher Jose Trevino on the injured list retroactive to June 29 with a right arm contusion.
Dahl was placed on the injured list in late May, and has been on a minor league rehab assignment since June 19. In nine games while on assignment, Dahl slashed .412/.444/.588 in 36 plate appearances. He has hit just .208/.242/.340 in the big leagues this season for the Rangers. Dahl is available off the bench today in Oakland, and will likely be starting regularly, at least against righthanded pitchers, going forward.
Trevino was injured earlier this week, resulting in John Hicks being brought up to give the Rangers a healthy backup catcher. I think the hope had been that Trevino would be ready to go quickly, and the Rangers would only have to play shorthanded for a couple of games, but that doesn’t appear to be the case, so Trevino will be on the shelf for at least the next week.
